Pitch-black caverns, very tight spaces, and flesh-eating crawley creatures ⬇️

For me, “The Descent” has been a very much avoided flick since its release in 2005. I don’t do bone-breaking sounds, underground caves, and tight spaces. This was literally a movie about all those things! It was you, the readers! I conquered my fear of number 5 on my “Never Will Watch” list because of the engagement in my IG stories. You voted me watching this over other content!

I enjoyed it, what a relief! Though I will say, I spent way more time afraid of what I thought was going to happen. What I feared happening was not what would end up happening. The tight spaces had me fearful of someone being pulled and contorted to fit in ways that no human body should be able to fit! I freaked out for nothing. The jump scares didn’t make me jump, I was too busy being terrified of someone’s arm being pulled through a tiny rock hole.

The creatures were BADASS! I can’t stress how much I loved them! The work done on their design is flawless! They looked like Golom’s meaner cousins! I felt their explanation for existence made a lot of sense if you accept the theory of evolution. If a tribe of cavemen lives underground long enough, has babies, and so on for thousands of years… you get these perfectly adapted cave crawlers! Blind, heightened sense of smell and sound, and a predator vs prey genetic makeup. Did I mention they are expert climbers! You kind of have to be if you aspire to be a crawler in the near future.

The gore was nothing I haven’t seen on every zombie movie I ever watched. The characters annoyed me and I couldn’t wait for them to die. I felt like a dad who agreed to drive my daughter and all her friends to the mall… now I have to deal with their screeching and obnoxious behavior. That being said… it surprised me how terrified they actually appeared in this movie! I went from hating them to really believing they were in this and scared for their lives. Overall I liked the movie a lot. What my imagination created was way more terrifying than the movie I watched.

I feel moving forward, I’ll be able to just enjoy this one as a decent horror movie.  It’s a wild one!
