Book 1 Tortures The Body.
Book 2 Tortures The Spirit.
SCREAM 2: SEQUEL RULES
1. The body count is always bigger
2. The death scenes are bloodier & shocking
3. Never ever assume the killer is dead!
“Grieving The Spirit” is Brooklyn Dean’s highly anticipated sequel to “Deification”!
Torrence is back like she never left! Because she never did! Book 2 picks up a second after Book 1’s ending! I love this! Don’t you guys love those horror films where Part 2 was taking place on the same night as Part 1? It gives this novel a classic feel from its opening page!
As I read this in practically one sitting (at work) I felt the stakes were raised so much higher already. Did this follow the sequel rules via “SCREAM 2”? That’s for you to find out! It’s worth your undivided attention! But don’t worry, I’ll give you readers something from my thoughts!
One of the most shocking scenes of any novel I have read was in this novel’s opening pages. It involves an angel and a Torrence… I loved being shocked and left with my jaw dropped; I was like, “OMG GASP! She really went there!” Me the reader wants ALL THE CRAZY OFFENSIVE VIBES! The sequel has the brutality of its predecessor, it’s definitely sexier, I might even want Torrence to try and make me not be such a good guy anymore…
But what I loved most about this VERY EMOTIONAL SEQUEL(For me, it was emotional)…
was the reoccurring topic of the spirit and what it feels like to have it broken down. I see my past self in the character, War. He’s an angel who is in love with Torrence, the Antichrist… don’t judge him, she’s actually pretty cool.
I just picture how gentle and sweet she is towards him, how always in control she is, how he clearly feels something real and is passionate about what’s felt, and yet… it kills his spirit because loving her will go against EVERYTHING he is. This was the battle between WHAT he is and WHO he is!
I related to War’s spiritually-rooted guilt and the many questions that surface when you are trying to know yourself.
A thought-provoking sequel this was for me!
